Police in Rukungiri District have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged assault and subsequent death of 24-year-old Kakuru Gideon, also known as Hakizimana Kaboy.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, which occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Kanyankyende Village in Nyabitete Parish, Bugangari Sub-county, Rukungiri District. The suspects have been identified as Ms. Nsimire Justine, Mr. Ndyamuhaki Posiano, and Mr. Murokozi John.

According to preliminary police reports, on the evening of Saturday, July 26, Ndyamuhaki and Murokozi were at a bar owned by their sister, Nsimire Justine, located at Kanyankyende Trading Centre. They were joined by several other patrons, including Kakuru Gideon, who was allegedly in a romantic relationship with Nsimire.

It is alleged that Kakuru expressed a desire to engage in sexual activity with Nsimire at the bar, a proposal that was strongly opposed by her brothers. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the two brothers attacked and severely assaulted Kakuru.

Local Chairperson Wilber Habaasa was alerted and rushed to the scene. He attempted to transport the unconscious victim to the hospital, but Kakuru tragically died en route. The incident was immediately reported to the police.

Police officers from Bugangari Police Station visited the scene, documented evidence, and arrested the three suspects to assist in ongoing investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
