Kanungu District, Uganda – Police in Kanungu have arrested a 33-year-old man, Gideon Muganirwe, for the brutal murder of his 17-year-old daughter, Precious Kyosimire, and the critical injury of his wife, Faustina Katuhebwa. The horrific incident unfolded in the early hours of January 9, 2024, around 2:00 AM, at their charcoal burning workplace in Kahama village, Nyakashure parish, Nyamirama sub-county.
According to reports, a dispute erupted between Muganirwe and his wife, Katuhebwa, over money while she was asleep. Fueled by rage, the suspect allegedly grabbed a machete and launched a savage attack on both his wife and daughter. The victims sustained severe injuries, leaving Kyosimire in a critical state.
Both were rushed to Kihihi Health Centre for immediate medical attention. However, Precious’s condition necessitated further treatment, and she was transferred to Nyakibale Hospital in Rukungiri district. Sadly, despite the medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
A bystander, Joshua Arinaitwe, witnessed the aftermath of the attack and promptly reported it to the police. Acting swiftly, officers apprehended Muganirwe and initiated a thorough investigation. The crime scene was meticulously documented and examined, while a postmortem was conducted at Nyakibale Hospital.
Gideon Muganirwe is currently detained at Kihihi Central Police Station as investigations continue.
