Police in Mitooma District are investigating the apparent suicide by drowning of a 40-year-old man, Rwamasika Rodgers, a resident of Rumumba cell in Kilembe Parish, Katenga sub-county.
Rodgers’ body was discovered floating in the Katereza River, which forms the border between Mitooma and Bushenyi Districts, on December 8, 2023, by Anthony, a resident at the same address. Anthony immediately informed Rodgers’ father, Kanyeihamba Deogratias, who subsequently reported the incident to the police.
The Police spokesperson Marcial Tumusiime confirmed the incident and identified the deceased. He further stated that a plastic bottle containing waragi was found near the wooden bridge a short distance from the body, and the deceased had a minor scratch on his right shoulder.
The body has been transported to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for a postmortem examination, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
