Three suspects are in police custody following a fatal mob attack in Kwania District, which claimed the life of a 35-year-old man and left two others severely injured. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 3, has been registered as a case of murder by mob action.

The deceased has been identified as Ajungu Muze Atidi, a resident of Oyima Cell, Acaba Parish. He was attacked alongside Odit Tonny and Omara Allan after the trio was allegedly found with a suspected stolen pig belonging to one of the arrested suspects, Acola Grace.

According to a statement issued by the Territorial Police in Kwania, the assault took place around 2:00 a.m. A group of individuals descended upon the three men, subjecting them to a severe beating. Police responded promptly upon receiving the alert and managed to rescue the victims.

Tragically, Ajungu Muze Atidi succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Nambieso Health Centre III. His body has been transferred to Aduku Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. The two surviving victims, Odit Tonny and Omara Allan, are currently receiving medical treatment.

The arrested suspects are Acola Grace, Edyata Ambrose, and Opio Moses. They are detained at Nambieso Sub-county Police Station, where investigations are actively underway. Police officers have already visited and documented the scene of the crime.

The Public Relations Officer for the North Kyoga Region, PJ Okema, issued a strong appeal to the public in the wake of the killing. He urged communities to refrain from mob justice and to instead report suspects and provide evidence to the police to allow for lawful investigations and prosecution.

This incident echoes a similar recent case of mob violence registered in the Amach area of Lira District, highlighting a worrying trend of vigilante actions in the region. Authorities emphasize that taking the law into one’s own hands not only undermines the justice system but also leads to preventable loss of life and serious legal consequences for those involved.

The police have assured the public that they are treating the case with utmost seriousness and have called for calm and cooperation from community members as the investigation proceeds.
