Police in Kanungu are investigating the circumstances under which 30-year-old Frank Nuwagaba was allegedly lynched by a mob.
Frank Nuwagaba, a casual laborer and resident of Bikuto Cell, Southern Ward, Butogota Town Council, was a renowned habitual criminal recently released from Kanungu Prison on charges of attempted murder.
The deceased had faced multiple court appearances related to drug use and posing a threat to family members and the community.
On the fateful Friday evening around 8 PM at Bikuto Cell, Southern Ward, Butogota Town Council, Kanungu District, Frank was reportedly beaten by an angry mob and died instantly.
Sources indicate that Frank had attacked his neighbor, Tumuhebwe Mauda, 50, stabbing her in the stomach with a sharp metallic object, causing severe internal injuries and significant bleeding.
It is also reported that Frank had previously expelled his mother from their home, where he had been living alone.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson, confirmed that the police were alerted and visited the scene. They documented the incident, and Mauda was rushed to Victorious Medical Centre in Butogota, where she remains in critical condition.
Maate stated that Frank’s body was taken to Kayonza Growers Tea Factory H/C II Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police recovered a small, long iron bar with a sharp end, bloodstained, and a hoe with blood on its wooden handle from the scene.
A murder by mob case report from Butogota was registered at Kanungu Central Police Station under SD.11/15/06/2024, and investigations are ongoing.
