A fatal accident occurred yesterday evening, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Karoni Cell in Western Ward of Nyamirama Sub-county, Kanungu District. The collision involved two motorcycles, resulting in one immediate fatality and two injuries.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate, the accident involved motorcycle registration number UFW 808N, ridden by 37-year-old Denis Twebaze, a resident of Kateramu Village, Kikongi Parish, Bwambara Sub-county, Rukungiri District. Twebaze died on the spot.
The other vehicle was motorcycle registration number UEP 852E, ridden by 25-year-old Niwamanya Ivan, a resident of Buyondo Village, Northern Ward, Nyamirama Town Council, who sustained serious injuries. A passenger on Niwamanya’s motorcycle, identified as Niwagaba Festo, also sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby health facility by good Samaritans.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the rider of motorcycle UFW 808N, who was traveling from Kihihi towards Rukungiri, left his lane and collided head-on with the oncoming motorcycle UEP 852E.
Police Officer Matamda and his team visited the accident scene. The injured victims were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment, and the body of the deceased was transported to Nyamirama Health Center III for a postmortem examination before being handed over to relatives for burial. Both motorcycles have been towed to Nyamirama Police Station pending inspection as investigations continue.
