The Police in Kasese District have apprehended Morris Kithenge Masereka, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Registrar for Ibanda Kyanya Town Council, in connection with the alleged tampering of official party documents that resulted in the disappearance of 15 NRM party registers.
Masereka, 41, was taken into custody following accusations of manipulating the register books, leading to their subsequent loss.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson, stated that the arrest was crucial to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing NRM party elections and Baraza activities within the region.
“We urge the public to remain calm and report any threats that could potentially disrupt the party Baraza and the voting process,” SP Tumushime said.
He further encouraged residents to collaborate closely with security agencies, including the police, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office, to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted continuation of the electoral process.
Investigations into this matter are currently underway.
