Police in Buliisa District have taken two individuals into custody regarding the theft of 20 computers from Butiaba Seed School in Butiaba sub-county, Buliisa District.
The individuals arrested are Rwamukaga Godfrey, aged 57, and Bigirwenkya Alfred, aged 38. They reside in Booma, Butiaba town council, and Garasoya village, Kihungya sub-county, Buliisa district, respectively.
The theft occurred last week.
According to the head teacher of the school, Muponda B Samuel, he received a phone call from one of the night watchmen, identified as Godfrey Rwamukaga, on Tuesday evening. Rwamukaga informed him about the theft of 20 computers from the school and advised him to report the matter to Walukuba police post.
The head teacher explained that, as per the watchman’s account, during a rainfall, the suspects took shelter in one of the classrooms and fell asleep. This provided an opportunity for unknown individuals to break into the computer laboratory, access the computers, and abscond with 20 of them.
The theft has adversely affected the learning process as ICT lessons require practical engagement.
Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, when contacted, confirmed the arrests. He stated that two security guards responsible for the school on the day of the incident have been detained. They face charges of negligence of duty, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
