Obongi, Uganda – Police in Obongi district have arrested four men suspected of trafficking over forty refugee children and women. The arrest took place last night at Obongi Ferry Landing on the orders of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka.
The RDC, who was patrolling the landing site at around 9:00 PM, found 56 people comprising men, women, and children in a Fuso truck traveling from a refugee camp in Madi Okollo. The driver of the truck with registration number UBG 922L claimed he was hired to take the refugees to Adjumani.

The RDC expressed suspicion because refugees are usually transported by UNHCR buses escorted by OPM officials and police. Immediately, the RDC directed the District Police Commander (DPC) of Obongi to impound the truck and arrest the transporters of the refugees.
