Obongi, Uganda – The RDC of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, has ordered an investigation into allegations of assault and extortion involving traffic police officers in Obongi district.

The RDC has instructed the OC CID Obongi, Detective ASP Adriko Ronald, to probe the reported assault of Hassan Ombere, a butcher from Moyo District, who was traveling to buy a cow in Obongi district.

The victim was allegedly attacked by traffic police at a checkpoint in Maduga Foligo, Gimara sub-county, and subsequently admitted to Obongi Health Centre IV.

Ombere claims that during the assault, the traffic police officers stole 1.7 million shillings from his pocket.

Relatives of Hassan Ombere reported the incident to the RDC’s office after alleging that the police had refused to open a case.

A case has since been opened at Obongi Central Police Station under SD Ref. 22/17/04/2024.

Today, RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and DISO Denis Elyebu visited Hassan Ombere at Obongi Health Centre IV, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Ombere recounted to the RDC and DISO that when he first encountered the traffic checkpoint, he was asked to pay 5,000/=, but he only paid 2,000/=. This apparently angered the traffic police officers.

He presented his blood-stained shirt to the RDC and DISO as evidence of the assault.
