Otuke Man Lynched After Allegedly Stealing and Selling Bull in Alebtong

Otuke District, Uganda – Police in Otuke District have registered a case of murder by a mob that occurred on April 7, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM. The incident began in Anara village, Aloi Sub-County, Alebtong District, and tragically ended in Alango Sub-County, Otuke District, with the death of Ongom Tom, aged 28 years, a resident of Pama village, Amingpenyo parish, Alango Sub-County, Otuke District.

According to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Police Spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, it is alleged that the deceased, Ongom Tom, stole a bull belonging to Apili Josephine, a resident of Pama village in Otuke District, and sold it in the Anara village area of Alebtong District.




Information regarding the stolen bull was circulated, and the deceased was subsequently apprehended by local residents in Anara village. They then escorted him towards Pama village in Alango Sub-County, allegedly beating him along the way. Upon reaching Pama village, local residents there also reportedly joined in the beating.




The area police were eventually informed and swiftly responded to rescue Ongom Tom from the mob. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the police intervention.




A case of murder by mob has been officially registered, and a comprehensive investigation has been launched.

A medical doctor has been contacted to conduct a postmortem examination on the deceased.

Authorities are currently searching for the owner of the bull to assist in the ongoing investigations.




The Otuke police are actively coordinating with the Alebtong police to extend the investigation and apprehend all individuals who participated in the beating that resulted in Ongom Tom’s death.
