The Amuru Deputy RDC, Proscovia Acham, has arrested two people in connection with fraudulently charging each member of the SACCO 94,000 shillings as the poor members struggled to apply for the PDM cash.
The fight on PDM scandal in Amuru district by Deputy RDC Acham Proscovia has caused the arrest of the embattled Reckiceke parish chief, Opiyo Walter, and the chairperson of the “Loyima- Reckiceke SACCO group,” commonly known as Oringa Lacan-matwala.
According to Deputy RDC Proscovia, they are still hunting for the treasurer of the group who is still on the run fearing apprehension.
The operation of arresting Opiyo Walter and Oringa Lacan-matwala has made the people of Amuru jubilant about the correct way Deputy RDC Acham Proscovia of Amuru is implementing the President’s directive on fighting corruption.
Deputy RDC Acham stated that the embattled Lacan-matwala and Opiyo Walter will be produced in court on Monday morning as the Resident State Attorney peruses their file.
As of now, the two PDM suspects, Opiyo and Lacan-matwala, are being detained at Amuru CPS under close watch and monitoring until they appear in court.
The SACCO members in Oloyoma-Pacu village, Reckiceke parish, tipped Deputy RDC that Oringa Lacan-matwala, the chairman of a SACCO group, the secretary, and Parish Chief of Reckiceke, Walter Opiyo, were collecting money totaling up to 94,000 shillings from each member of the group in Amuru district.
Police CID SP Akello Francis was also congratulated by members of the group for conducting a very detailed investigation over the extortion of money that Opiyo conducted in a mafia-syndicate style on them.
Two members of the group who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity want the arrested people jailed for extortion, while others want them jailed and to refund their extorted money.
I am finally calling upon members of the public to report any scandal or extortion of PDM money at any level in the district to me without fear or favor.
She commended the OC CID SP Akello Francis for being a committed officer who conducted a thorough investigation and warned that no one in the district should tamper with any PDM case file.
