Police Arrest 34 Criminals in Lira City West Following Intelligence-Led Raid

The police in Lira City West Division conducted intelligence-led operations on December 10, 2024, in the areas of Kamshwali, Te-Atat, Te-Dam, and Te-Kulu, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects accused of terrorizing residents.

These areas are known crime hotspots, identified during the Police Community Policing program conducted across various locations in Lira City West Division.




The suspects are alleged to be part of criminal gangs involved in smoking opium, sniffing aviation fuel, consuming alcohol, and robbing civilians of items such as phones, wallets, handbags, and other personal belongings. They are also suspected of engaging in housebreaking and theft. Among the arrested suspects are 9 females and 25 males, all of whom are currently in police custody.




The officers are in the process of recording their statements, and their case files will be compiled and submitted to the RCSA for review and legal advice on the relevant charges.




The police appreciate the strong collaboration between law enforcement and community members in sharing information on security matters. This partnership demonstrates the community’s commitment to fighting crime, in accordance with Article 17 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, which highlights the duties of citizens.

The police encourage continued support for security efforts through timely information sharing, enabling quick responses to criminal activities.
