Mbarara Police apprehended a suspected motorcycle theft ring operating out of a rented room. The operation, conducted on March 20th, 2024, at around 5:00 AM, stemmed from a tip received from the Chairman LC1 of Lubiri Cell, Nyamityobora ward.
Police raided the gated premises owned by a Congolese refugee, Runezerewa Ntwari. While the main suspect, Twakiire Ivan, evaded arrest, a thorough search of his rented room yielded significant evidence.
Recovered Items
- Five red Bajaj Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers: UEX 948U, UEZ 259Y, UES 834V, UDS 667A, and UFS 625S.
- Five additional registration number plates (likely fake or stolen): UDQ 462R, UFT 481L, UFX 960F, UGA 561F, UEW 208C.
- Various motorcycle spare parts.
All recovered items were documented and secured at CPS Mbarara (Central Police Station Mbarara).
Arrest and Investigations
The landlord, Mr. Runezerwa Ntwari, was arrested for questioning to assist in the ongoing investigation. Police are actively searching for Twakiire Ivan and any potential accomplices.
During the raid, police were forced to use tear gas and discharge warning shots to disperse an angry mob of boda boda riders who attempted to attack the individuals within the premises.
