Margaret Ssemeyi, a 62-year-old businesswoman, fell victim to armed assailants who robbed her at gunpoint in Kyabagu zone, Njeru town council, Buikwe district on Monday night. The perpetrators, numbering three, ambushed Ssemeyi as she arrived home after a routine day at work, forcibly opening her car door and demanding everything within, including a large sum of sh10 million.

Providing an account of the incident to the police, Ssemeyi recounted the traumatic experience of being held at gunpoint by one armed man accompanied by two others. Following the robbery, the assailants hastily fled the scene, leaving the victim shocked and shaken.

Njeru’s territorial police are actively pursuing the unidentified suspects for the aggravated robbery. Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa regional Police spokesperson, revealed that all the fleeing suspects were dressed in civilian clothes.

The victim, described as a businesswoman dealing in beer and running a soda depot at Nakibizi trading center, reported the incident promptly, prompting the ongoing police investigation. Butoto emphasized that the police advise against carrying large sums of money and urged caution among businesspeople and the public.

“As Police, we always advise businesspeople and other individuals not to move with such large amounts of money,” said Butoto.
