Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which a 53-year-old woman was murdered.
The deceased was identified as Bainenama Olivia, a resident of Nyarurambi cell, Kasheshe parish, Butanja sub county in Rukungiri district.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesman, it is alleged that on December 11, 2023, at around 5PM, Beinenama found her husband, Mugisha Abel, grazing his goats and asked him for money to buy hens.
The husband gave her 40,000 Ugandan shillings, and she went to Kasheshe trading center, where she bought two hens and took them home.
When Mugisha Abel returned home around 6PM, he found Beinenama in the kitchen, cut to death by an unknown person.
The husband called Akandwanaho Edwin, the deceased’s daughter, who reported the murder.
Maate told the press that a case was registered at Rukungiri SD Reference 46/11/12/2023, and the scene of the crime was visited by homicide staff, who examined and documented it.
Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, a panga was recovered as evidence, and the body was taken to RwaKabengo health center III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police are still investigating the motive and circumstances of the murder.
