OTUKE, UGANDA – The territorial police in Otuke District, North Kyoga Region, are investigating the circumstances under which a prison wardress was murdered. According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the police in North Kyoga Region have commenced an investigation into the death of a prison staff member identified as Wardress Angu Scovia, aged 52, who was attached to Otuke Government Prison.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, in a press statement on Sunday evening, mentioned that this investigation follows a report filed by Mr. Otyanga Walter, a 53-year-old officer in charge of Otuke Prison in Otuke District.
However, it is alleged that on October 14, 2023, the deceased left her home, located in the prison’s barracks, and went to an undisclosed destination. On Sunday morning, October 15, 2023, her lifeless body was discovered at Otuke Town Council compound next to Otuke Prison in Otuke District.
The police have visited the crime scene with a full team of officers from Otuke Police Station. The scene was documented, and several exhibits were recovered, including shoes and underpants believed to belong to the suspect. This suggests that the suspect might have sexually assaulted the officer before killing her.
Okema stated that the crime scene has been preserved, and a K9 (canine) unit was deployed, leading the police to the arrest of three suspects. Meanwhile, the items recovered are believed to belong to the main suspect, who is currently on the run and has been identified as Omara Oscar.
The police express regret and strong condemnation for this unfortunate incident. They assure the general public, the deceased’s relatives, and prison staff that efforts to apprehend the main suspect are ongoing. The police call for calmness and support in locating the suspect if spotted anywhere
