BUSHENYI, Uganda – Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the mysterious death of a prominent local businessman, Isaac Ruhigwa Atwiine. The 54-year-old was discovered lifeless in a hotel room on Wednesday night.
Atwiine, a resident of Bwegiragye Cell in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality, had checked into the Deluxe Hotel in Kizinda Town with an unidentified woman. According to police reports, the pair arrived at the hotel reception around 8 PM, with Atwiine holding a glass of beer.
While the deceased’s details were recorded in the hotel’s register, he allegedly instructed the receptionist not to capture the woman’s information. The two were then assigned to room D8.
Around 7:30 PM, the woman reportedly left the hotel alone. Shortly after, she contacted the hotel owner, Francis Byompaire, to inform him that Atwiine was in distress. Hotel receptionist Vian Kihembo checked the room and discovered Atwiine deceased on the bed.
Witnesses described finding the deceased fully covered with a bed cover, despite being completely naked.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Atwiine’s death and have not made any arrests at this time.
