Rukiga Radio Presenter Arrested After Being Found with Toy Pistol

Rukiga, Uganda — Police in Rukiga District have arrested a local radio presenter after he was allegedly found in possession of a toy pistol, sparking security concerns among residents.

The suspect, Daglas Natukunda (27 Years), a presenter at Rukiga FM and a resident of Nyangorogoro Village, Kitojo Parish in Rwamucucu Sub-county, was arrested on Saturday, 27th September, 2025, at around 1:30 p.m.

According to police reports, Natukunda was found with the toy pistol tucked into his waistband while at Kyerero Village, Kandago Parish, Bukinda Sub-county. The arrest was carried out by the District Police Commander, SP Moses Karakire Musinguzi, and his team, acting on intelligence received from the community.

Police say the arrest followed a recent community policing meeting held at Nyaikunama football pitch, where concerned residents reported the presence of an individual moving around with what appeared to be a real firearm.

In response, security teams launched an operation that led to Natukunda’s arrest.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, praised local residents for their vigilance and support in maintaining public safety.

“We commend the public for their timely information and urge them to remain alert and cooperative in efforts to prevent crime,” said Maate.

Natukunda was taken into custody, and the toy pistol was recovered as evidence. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine whether there was any intent to cause alarm or impersonate law enforcement.

He is currently being held at Rukiga Central Police Station, pending further inquiries and possible charges.
