A Rwandan national has confessed to murdering an 83-year-old man who was found dead in his house in Karujabura Cell, Kitumba Sub County, Kabale District.
The suspects, identified as Desire Kwizera, aged 26, and his wife Uwingabire, were arrested on Saturday at the Bunagana border in Kisoro District as they attempted to escape.
They were suspected of being behind the murder of 83-year-old Geoffrey Twinomujuni Ntegyire, a resident of Karujabura Cell in Mwendo Parish, Kabale District.
Today, June 3, 2023, police took the suspect to the crime scene in the house of the deceased. The suspect, who was staying in a nearby room in the same house as the deceased’s helper in selling porridge, demonstrated how he killed him before taking off with all the house items, including a mattress, an iron box, a radio, a suitcase, and a bicycle.
The suspect said that he killed Twinomujuni because he used to annoy them with abusive words in Runyankore Rukiga.

Biryomumeisho Annacalet, the local council chairman of Karujabura Cell in Mwendo Parish, Kitumba Sub county, raised a red flag about landlords who don’t register their tenants with his office. He added that there are also cases of marijuana smokers.
The Kitumba Sub County LC3 Chairperson, David Muhereza Kato, said that the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood with five marks pierced on his head and his mattress was taken away.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, said that the suspects were arrested with the above-mentioned property of the deceased.
Upon completion of the investigations, they will be arraigned before courts of law to answer charges accordingly. Maate added that they were arrested at the border area for not having relevant documents, only to be found as the suspects in the murder of the deceased.
