On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the police in Oyam District launched a search for a 14-year-old girl who is facing accusations of fatally stabbing her father.
The victim, identified as Emmanuel Otim, was a resident of Ajaya Village in Loro Sub-county, Oyam District.
The incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday at approximately 3:25 pm when the deceased returned home under the influence of alcohol.
According to police records, upon his return, he discovered his wife sharing a bed with their daughter, which led to a verbal dispute with his partner. Regrettably, the argument escalated into a physical altercation.
At this point, the girl, who is now at large, reportedly grabbed a knife and inflicted a stab wound to her father’s thigh, near his groin area.
This grievous injury resulted in severe bleeding, and in his attempt to escape, Otim made it only as far as the courtyard before collapsing, ultimately succumbing to his injuries.
Anthony Ongom, the landlord of the deceased, promptly reported the incident to the police.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, provided details on the police response. He stated that a team of officers from Oyam Central Police Station joined forces with the Loro police to visit the scene.
The lifeless body of the victim was recovered and transported to Anyeke Health Centre IV in Oyam District. It will remain there pending the completion of a postmortem examination.
SP Okema expressed his condemnation of the incident, terming it “a very unfortunate event.” He also issued an appeal to young individuals, urging them to refrain from getting involved in their parents’ conflicts. Instead, he encouraged them to seek assistance from neighbors by raising an alarm when necessary.
Efforts to apprehend the teenage suspect are currently underway as the authorities work to resolve this tragic and regrettable incident.
