Forensic experts have confirmed that the pistol used in the murder of vlogger Isma Olaxes is the same weapon employed in the attempted assassination of Pastor Aloysius Bujingo. Pastor Bujingo, attacked on Tuesday night, suffered the loss of his bodyguard and driver, Corporal Richard Muhumuza, a skilled soldier in the Special Forces Command (SFC).

The ballistic examination conducted on the bullets recovered from Pastor Bujingo’s vehicle, the crime scene, and the projectiles removed from Corporal Muhumuza’s body has established a direct connection to the pistol used in the killing of Isma Olaxes. The vlogger was murdered in May 2023 outside his home in Kyanja, Nakawa Division, Kampala, and despite eight months passing, detectives have made no breakthrough in the case, with no suspects apprehended.

The unidentified pistol, not present in any official security agency records, has now become a focal point in two high-profile incidents, raising concerns about the potential involvement of a common assailant or criminal network. Sources close to the investigation emphasize the significance of this discovery, linking the tragic events surrounding Isma Olaxes and the attempted assassination of Pastor Bujingo.

Corporal Muhumuza’s body, bearing 13 bullet wounds, yielded seven bullets during the examination, drawing a chilling parallel to the six fatal shots that claimed Isma Olaxes’s life. While security collected nine cartridges from the scene of Olaxes’s murder, the commonality in the ballistic evidence underscores a compelling connection between the two cases.

In the aftermath of the revelation, Pastor Bujingo’s vehicle, riddled with 11 visible bullet holes, has been transferred from the Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS) at Naguru police headquarters to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in Kibuli. Senior Commissioner of Police Beata Chelimo is overseeing the investigations at CID headquarters.

However, disagreements among senior CID officers about the transfer of the vehicle without the director’s consent led to a decision to hand it over to the Inspector of Vehicles Officer (IOV) at Old Kampala. The vehicle, a crucial piece of evidence with its visible bullet holes, is central to unraveling the complexities of the botched assassination attempt on Pastor Bujingo.

Investigators, determined to unearth the truth behind these interconnected incidents, have collected seven CCTV videos from Salt Media premises, police security cameras on the road, and cameras on private buildings. The thorough examination of these visual records aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the attempted assassination and the earlier murder of Isma Olaxes.
