Shock in Mbarara as Woman Accused of Dumping Newborn in Latrine

Mbarara, Uganda –  Authorities in Mbarara District have launched a manhunt for a 23-year-old woman accused of dumping her one-week-old baby in a latrine in a disturbing case that has shocked the local community.

The suspect, identified as Jackline Arimpa, is a resident of Karweshanga Ward in Rubindi-Ruhumba Town Council. Police say she is currently on the run as investigations into the incident intensify.

Preliminary reports indicate that the baby boy, believed to be just one week old, was allegedly dumped in a pit latrine under unclear circumstances. Local authorities and residents have since been working closely with security agencies to trace the suspect and establish the full details surrounding the incident.

Police have condemned the act and urged members of the public to report any information that could lead to Arimpa’s arrest. They also called on communities to support vulnerable mothers and encourage them to seek help in times of distress rather than resorting to harmful actions.

The case has sparked concern among residents and child rights advocates, who are calling for increased awareness, counseling services, and stronger community support systems to prevent similar incidents.

Investigations are ongoing.
