Kabale District – Police in Kabale are searching for 19-year-old Nicholas Niwagaba, who is suspected of murdering his father, Darius Turamyomwe, 52, in Omumihanga Village, Kitumba Sub-county.
The tragic incident occurred on December 18, 2024, at around 8:00 PM, following a heated argument over land ownership.
According to Elly Maate, the Regional Police Spokesperson, “The father told his son that the land belonged to him and suggested he establish his own life, which unfortunately escalated into a violent altercation.”
When the deceased’s wife, Kyarimpa Peragia, returned home from the trading center, she discovered her husband lying in the living room, bleeding from the mouth and with a swollen head.
“Kyarimpa was informed by her husband that he had been assaulted by their son. She immediately sought help from a neighbor, Christopher, who assisted in transporting the victim to Kabale Referral Hospital,” Maate explained.
Despite medical intervention, Turamyomwe succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Saturday.
Following the incident, area chairperson Patrick Tumuranze alerted the police. Officers visited the scene, documented evidence, and conducted a postmortem.
Maate expressed deep regret over the incident, highlighting the tragic nature of a son turning against his father. He urged the public to assist in locating Niwagaba.
“I humbly appeal to anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to immediately report to the police,” Maate stated.
Land-related disputes have been on the rise in Kabale District, driven by increasing population pressure. This concerning trend demands immediate attention and effective solutions.
