The police in Kumi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning of three siblings, leading to their death. The victims, John Okodosi (9), Ignatius Agodo (4), and Constant Olupot (6), all sons of Tom Omudu and residents of Okudumo Village in Mukongoro Sub County, were pronounced dead upon reaching a nearby clinic in Kanyum town council on Wednesday.

The bodies were later taken to Mbale City Mortuary, where police surgeon Dr. Barnabas Rubanza confirmed that the children had died from poisoning.

Kumi’s Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Ahamada Washaki, expressed regret over the incident, describing it as a shocking and regrettable case of murder. The parents, Tom Omudu and his wife, expressed their grief, highlighting the pain of losing innocent children to such a heinous act.

According to Mr. Stephen Odongo, the LC3 chairperson of Mukongoro Sub County, the alleged poisoning occurred when the parents were not at home, suggesting a targeted attack on the children as softer targets. The suspects, yet to be identified, are believed to have harbored ill intentions towards the parents, making the children unsuspecting victims.

In response to the tragedy, on Thursday evening, relatives of the deceased children reportedly set fire to the homes of the suspects. The Kumi District Police Commander, Mr. Twaha Buyinza, assured that the matter is under investigation, and the police are vigilant to prevent further loss of lives through potential revenge attacks.
