Police have announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the alleged aggravated robbery and attempted murder incidents, including the attack on the home of former Kawempe South Member of Parliament, Mubarak Munyagwa. The arrested individuals are identified as Igga Meddy, Allan Safari, and Mansur Kwizera, currently held at Nsangi Police Station.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the arrests are related to the cases involving Collins Musoke, Kenneth Ssebufu, Winnie Namutebi, Juma Kalanzi, Michael Emuroni, and Shaffic Male on December 29, 2023. The suspects are also implicated in the raid at Munyagwa’s residence in Kimbeja cell on January 3, 2024, where Munyagwa’s security guard, Benjamin Mpaka, was injured.

In both incidents, victims sustained injuries, and valuable items, including a 65-inch television, approximately sh2 million in cash, and 10 phones, were stolen. Additionally, a vehicle (Mv Mark X – UBB043A) was vandalized at one of the targeted homes.

Investigations revealed that stolen phones, some containing mobile money, were traced to unauthorized transactions. The arrest on January 16, 2024, yielded breaking implements believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes. Telephone lines associated with the illicit money transfer during the robbery incidents were also recovered as crucial exhibits for the prosecution.

The arrested individuals, operating within a larger group of 6-8 members, primarily targeted the areas of Budo, Kimbeja, and Kyengera town council. Security agencies are actively pursuing other members of the group who remain at large.

The suspects, Igga, Safari, and Kwizera, have been charged with aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
