Obongi, Uganda—Three leaders of the Ewafa PDM SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperative) arrested on the orders of Obongi RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka have been remanded to Moyo Government Prison.
The three, Moyin John Bosco (Chairperson), Isire Swaib (Supervisory Committee Chairperson), and Barrack Nickson (Secretary), appeared before the magistrates court in Moyo.
The trio are suspected of extorting money from over 100 PDM (Parish Development Model) beneficiaries in the Ewafa PDM SACCO.
The victims, mainly women, include Mariam Nasur, who is over 72 years old. Nasur paid 150,000/= as a bribe to the SACCO leaders in August but has not received the promised one million shillings.
Visibly distressed, Nasur expressed disappointment that her son’s shop, where she borrowed the money in Ewafa trading center, has since closed.
Most of the PDM beneficiaries in the Ewafa PDM SACCO who bribed the leaders have not received their one million shillings.
This prompted the intervention of security officials, including the police and the Obongi district RDC’s office.
