Law enforcement officers in Kampala have reported the arrest of 173 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, with each offender fined Shs200,000. The arrests primarily occurred in areas such as Wandegeya, Old Kampala, CPS Kampala, Kiira Road, and Katwe division.

According to SP Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the traffic police, the detained individuals were held until the following day, fingerprinted, and fined Shs200,000. In addition, during the week of September 10 to 16, 2023, CCTV cameras recorded 99 drivers exceeding the speed limit on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, all of whom were subsequently fined Shs200,000.

Furthermore, law enforcement agencies impounded a total of 991 motorcycles for various violations. These infractions included 502 riders without valid driving licenses, 334 without proper crash helmets, 298 lacking adequate reflectors, and 127 riders committing other violations.
