Two Arrested for Alleged Kidnapping of 4-Year-Old in Kaliro

Kaliro District Police have arrested two women in connection with the kidnapping of a 4-year-old child. The suspects have been identified as Namukoba Mariam, a 27-year-old resident of Namukoge village, Namugongo Sub-county, and Babita Irene, a resident of Kiringa, Nawandala Sub-county in Iganga District.

The victim, a niece of Namukoba and a pupil at Bright Future School in Namukoge, was reportedly kidnapped on November 29, 2024, by a boda-boda rider named Gasita.

The child’s grandmother, Nakayima Edinansi, reported the incident to the police after the child failed to return home.

Following the report, police launched an investigation and discovered that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Shs3 million.

Through diligent investigation, the police identified Namukoba as a suspect and arrested her on December 3, 2024.

During interrogation, Namukoba confessed to receiving the child from Gasita and keeping her in a sugarcane plantation before handing her over to Babita in Iganga District.

The victim was successfully recovered from Babita’s custody, and both suspects were arrested and detained at Kaliro Police Station. Police are currently searching for the boda-boda rider, Gasita, who is still at large.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
