Two bodaboda riders have been arrested on suspicion of committing aggravated robbery in a collaborative effort between the Territorial Police in Rwizi region and Mbarara city north. The individuals in custody have been identified as Taremwa Mathias, an 18-year-old resident of Rwemukoma cell in Bushenyi district, and Kwesiga Wilber, a 32-year-old from Rubiri cell in Nyamityobora ward, Mbarara city.
According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the arrests were made in connection with the aggravated robbery of shillings 4.2 million from Judith Numamanya, a 40-year-old businesswoman residing in Katojo cell. The incident occurred when Numamanya boarded a bodaboda operated by Kwesiga at Rose Foam Factory in Biharwe, Mbarara city, intending to travel to the Koranorya daily market where she works.
Shortly after the journey began, Kwesiga stopped to pick up his accomplice, Taremwa, as reported by Enanga. Upon reaching Migamba, the duo allegedly surrounded the victim, with Kwesiga diverting from the route. At this point, Taremwa is said to have brandished a knife and proceeded to rob Judith of her belongings.
The motorcycle used in the commission of the crime, bearing registration number UFV 652F and described as a red Bajaj boxer, was subsequently tracked down and seized by authorities. Following a thorough investigation, both suspects were apprehended by law enforcement officers. They now face charges related to aggravated robbery, with the impounded motorcycle serving as key evidence in the case, according to Enanga.
