Kole District, Uganda – The territorial police in Kole District have confirmed a fatal road accident that occurred at Akalo Comprehensive School along the Lira–Aduku Road on September 24, 2025, at around 7:00 PM.
According to the North Kyoga Police Region spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, it is alleged that a motor vehicle, registration number UBL 284U, belonging to Gulsan Construction Company and loaded with stones, suffered a tyre burst and was parked along the road. Unfortunately, a motorcycle with registration number UEW 711E (Bajaj brand), being ridden by an unidentified individual and carrying a woman and a child, rammed into the stationary vehicle from behind.
Two of the motorcycle occupants – the rider and the woman – sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. The child survived but was critically injured and was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
Police officers from Akalo Police Station visited the scene, and the deceased were transported to the Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, pending post-mortem examinations.
SP Okema attributed the accident to careless riding and used the incident to highlight the increasing number of road accidents in the region. According to police records, recent accidents have largely been caused by:
- Sudden or poor turning by motorists
- Entering roads from side paths without caution
- Over-speeding
- Careless driving or overtaking
- Poor weather conditions
“We appeal to all road users to observe traffic rules and regulations,” said SP Okema. “Let’s not wait to see a traffic officer before pretending to follow the rules. Above all, let’s be self-driven and responsible on the road.”
