The deceased persons, who are yet to be identified, along with others still at large, reportedly raided Kambugu village in Kicucura sub-county of Kagadi district and stole a motorcycle with registration number UFN 290L, a Bajaj belonging to one of the area residents. The incident occurred on Friday night.
Information obtained by Uganda Radio Network-URN indicates that after the thugs raided and stole the motorcycle, they fled towards Hoima town. However, area residents started pursuing the suspects, whom they later arrested. Two of the suspects survived the mob action, while those who were arrested were beaten, and their bodies were later burnt. It is important to note that mob justice is illegal in Uganda.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, has confirmed the incident. He stated that the police recovered the suspected stolen motorcycle, which is currently being kept as an exhibit at the Kagadi central police station.
He mentioned that the police later picked up the remains of the killed thieves, which were then conveyed to the Kagadi general hospital mortuary, where they are currently lying pending postmortem and identification.
According to Hakiza, the hunt for all those who participated in the mob justice action is ongoing. He condemned the actions of the area residents, emphasizing that mob justice is a crime.
