KANUNGU, Uganda — Police in Kanungu District are investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a female pedestrian late Sunday night.
The accident occurred at around 12:10 a.m. at the junction to Matanda area along the Kihihi–Rukungiri Road.
The victim, whose identity had not yet been confirmed by press time, was reportedly crossing the road when she was struck by an unidentified motor vehicle traveling toward Rukungiri, She died instantly at the scene.
According to the District Traffic Officer, ASP Nsabiyera Herbert, police visited and documented the scene before the body was transported to Kanungu Health Centre IV Katate Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and urged anyone with missing relatives to check at the mortuary.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and identify the vehicle involved.
