The Territorial Police in APAC District have arrested Private Amali Jacob, 26, a UPDF officer attached to the 101st Battalion in Lacekocot Detachment in Pader District. He is alleged to have shot and killed Okullo Haggai, 25, a resident of Atek Village, Adeni Parish, Chegere Sub-County in APAC District.

On January 7, 2025, Amali Jacob reportedly escaped from his workplace and returned to his home in Kwoyo ‘A’ Village. Later that evening, he went with friends to a bar called Acan pe Nino in Kidilani Trading Center. A disagreement arose between him and Haggai over a woman named Auma Winnie, which escalated into a fight.

Following the altercation, the suspect left the bar but later returned around 4:00 AM with a gun and allegedly shot Haggai.

Police were notified, and a case of murder by shooting was registered at APAC Central Police Station (CPS). A team of police officers, including the District CID, Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO), and Canine Unit, visited the crime scene.

Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses. The suspect was subsequently arrested and detained at APAC CPS. The alleged murder weapon has not yet been recovered, and the suspect has refused to disclose its location.

Olila, a friend who was with the suspect at the bar, and Auma Winnie have also been arrested to assist with the investigation.

The deceased’s body has been transported to Apac Main Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

This is an unfortunate incident, marking the second murder by shooting in APAC District within a week. It is reported that the suspect was released from Kinene Prison in Pader District in September 2024 after being convicted of assaulting his commander.
