Village Chairperson Commits Suicide in Pader

Locals of Wangcol village, Kineni Parish, Pukor Sub County in the Pader district are in shock after their village chairperson committed suicide by hanging on the night of Thursday, at an unknown time and the body was found hanging on one of the trees on Friday, 22nd September 2023 morning.

The deceased identified as Geoffery Kwoyelo, in his early 30s reportedly committed suicide by hanging on a tree in the neighboring village of Labaka in the same parish of Kineni.

One of the residents, who preferred anonymity, narrated to our reporter that the deceased (Kwoyelo) picked up a quarrel with his wife on Thursday evening before his wife left for a night in the neighboring village of Wangcol for safety. Reports indicate that helater followed his wife to a place suspected that his wife could be spending the night, and later hanged himself.

The LC 3 chairperson of Pukor sub-county, Mr. Richard Ojwini confirmed the incident saying that the two clans of the woman (Madi) and Kilak-laker-dyere (man) have converged a meeting to find ways of harmonizing the two parties.

Superintendent of police Abraham Tukundane, the Pader district Police Commander revealed that the police visited the scene of crime and recorded statements from witnesses.

The DPC explained that body of the deceased had been handed over to the family for burial after a postmortem done at Pajule Health Center IV indicated that the deceased committed suicide.
