Friday, February 16, 2024

Ronald Kibedi Cox, a vlogger, has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of cyber harassment and insulting the modesty of a woman.

Appearing before Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court, Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha presided over his arraignment where Kibedi denied the charges.

He was remanded to Luzira Prison until March 6th, 2024, as the Prosecution led by Lydia Nakato informed the court that investigations are ongoing.

The court heard that between 2019 and January 2024 in Kampala District, Kibedi used a computer to post messages and videos on his Facebook accounts/pages, namely; Kibedi Ronald Cox, Kibedicox Cox, and Kibedi Abooki Cox.

The Prosecution alleges that he made suggestions or proposals referring to Juliet Zawedde, a Ugandan social entrepreneur and musical artist based in America, as a prostitute, fraudster, sex worker, fake dollar boss, and used other obscene words.

Furthermore, it was noted that Kibedi recorded and posted videos with the intent to insult the modesty of a woman, specifically targeting Zawedde.

This is not Kibedi’s first encounter with such charges. About a month ago, he faced similar accusations before the same court, presided over by Grade One Magistrate, Julia Basajjabalaba.

In the previous case, Kibedi was denied bail after the Prosecution opposed his application on grounds of insubstantial sureties.

According to Section 24 of the Computer Misuse Act, if found guilty, Kibedi could face a fine of 72 currency points (equivalent to 1.4 million shillings), imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
