Buhweju, Uganda – Police in Buhweju District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of 35-year-old Kyogabirwe Olivia, a resident of Enkombe Trading Centre in Kyahenda Sub-county.
Preliminary reports indicate that Kyogabirwe may have been strangled by 24-year-old Turinawe Kenneth, a resident of Ruzinga in the same sub-county.
According to the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, the victim’s body was discovered by her husband, Kabatungye Nicholas.
“On 2nd September 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., the husband to the deceased returned home from gold mining and found his wife’s body lying on the floor inside their house,” Tayebwa said.
He further revealed that unresolved family conflicts may have played a role in the incident.
“Reports indicate there were longstanding witchcraft-related disputes within the family, which may have escalated into this unfortunate incident,” he noted.
Police processed the scene and later transferred the body to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
“As the law requires, we have handed the body over for postmortem to establish the actual cause of death,” Tayebwa added.
One suspect is currently in custody to assist with the ongoing investigations, while police continue gathering evidence.
Tayebwa also urged the public to avoid taking part in criminal activities.
“We urge members of the public to distance themselves from acts of lawlessness since they are prosecutable,” he emphasized.
