His Royal Highness, Lt Col (RTD) Martin Ayongi Kamya, the King of the Obudhigiya Bwa Bwamba (OBB) cultural institution in Bundibugyo District, has announced a significant reshuffle in his cabinet, marking the first such overhaul since assuming the throne in 2014.
The reshuffle involves the repositioning of the kingdom’s prime minister and deputies, with notable individuals being reassigned to different roles within the cabinet. Notably, those who were previously in these positions were not reappointed as ministers this time.
Mr. Wilson Mubulya, who served as Prime Minister since 2014, has been succeeded by Mr. Charles Bukantwa. However, Mubulya has been appointed as the Chairperson of Special Advisors.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tomas Kamuhanda, the former deputy prime minister, has been replaced by Mr. Hassan Kihanda, with Kamuhanda assuming a role as a member of the Committee of Special Advisors. Additionally, Mr. Robert Sunday, the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, has been replaced by Mr. Ivan Mutebi, who in turn has been appointed to the Committee of Special Advisors.
In the newly revamped cabinet, Rev. Geoffrey Kyomuhendo retains his position as the cultural institution spokesperson.
The appointments were made in accordance with the powers vested in the King under the Obudhigiya Bwa Bwamba constitution of 2012. The reshuffle also saw Mr. Bukantwa, the newly appointed Prime Minister, transition from his previous role as Minister for Finance for the Kingdom.
Furthermore, other ministers within the cabinet have undergone reassignments, with Mr. John Musinguzi now serving as the Minister for Trade, and Dr. James Maisaba assuming the role of Minister for Health and Medical Superintendent.
The cabinet, which now comprises 40 members, including 30 full ministers and 10 deputy ministers, has been augmented with appointments to key positions such as kingdom administrative officers, tribunal members, land board representatives, and members of the electoral and sports boards. Additionally, 13 individuals have been appointed as special advisors.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Mr. Bukantwa affirmed his commitment to the cultural institution’s continued growth and prosperity.
The Obudhigiya Bwa Bwamba, representing the Bamba, Babwisi, and Bavanuma tribes from Bundibugyo district and parts of DR Congo, remains a pivotal cultural entity within Uganda.
