The Kyabazinga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, the ruler of Busoga kingdom, has expressed gratitude for the investors supporting education in the monarchy, stating that they are contributing to the realization of “our ancestors’ dream.” The kingdom places a high priority on the education of its people, and these investors play a vital role in furthering the vision of an “enlightened Busoga.”
This announcement came during the second graduation ceremony of the Leura School of Nursing and Midwifery in Ibulanku sub-county, Bugweri district, which the Kyabazinga officiated on Friday. The Kyabazinga was warmly welcomed by Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Busoga kingdom’s prime minister, Sulaiman Lule, the school’s executive director, Francis Najjuko Mulumba, the principal, and Paul Lukabyo, a benefactor.
The graduation ceremony featured a procession from the school’s administration block to the venue, with the king dressed in a grey suit, acknowledging the students and guests. He awarded certificates to 296 nurses and midwives who completed their studies in June and December 2022, as well as June 2023.
In his speech, the Kyabazinga commended the school’s management, highlighting its significant contributions to the educational and social development not only of Bugweri but of Busoga as a whole. He also expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders for their technical guidance, direction, and support in keeping the school on the right track.
The Kyabazinga emphasized that the institute not only focuses on academics but also creates an environment that promotes the physical, spiritual, and socio-cultural development of the students. He mentioned the school’s success in sports, freedom of worship, and the promotion of cultural associations such as Abasoga Nseete and Nkobazambogo.
Furthermore, the Busoga monarch encouraged the graduates to lead responsible lives, be patriotic, civil, ethical, and culturally well-groomed.
Sulaiman Lule, the school’s executive director, highlighted that the percentage of male nursing graduates had increased to 42% compared to the previous percentage of under 40%. The school began operations in November 2017 and has witnessed a consistent growth in enrollment, with the number of pioneer graduates increasing nearly twofold during the second graduation ceremony.
