President Museveni has extended financial support of Shs10 million for the medical treatment of Busoga Diocese Bishop Paul Samson Naimanhye, who is currently ill.
Bishop Naimanhye underwent a medical procedure known as Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) at Uro Care Hospital in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.
The news of the bishop’s illness emerged last December when Rev Can Dr Joy Mukisa Isabirye, sub-dean of Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja City, announced via a WhatsApp Forum that the bishop had undergone a successful TURBT surgery.
Due to his illness, Bishop Naimanhye was unable to preside over the Christmas summons last year. Although he attended Easter day church services, he could only conduct the third service as he was feeling unwell.
Vice President Jessica Alupo delivered the Shs10 million donation during the St Mary’s Day celebrations for the Mother’s Union in Busoga Diocese at St James Church in Jinja City over the weekend. Accompanying her was First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Ms. Alupo conveyed President Museveni’s support, stating, “President Museveni has extended to you support of Shs10m for the treatment.” She assured Bishop Naimanhye of continued assistance from the President if further support is required.
During the event, Bishop Naimanhye, accompanied by his wife Florence Lydia Naimanhye, delivered a brief speech. Born on December 24, 1960, Naimanhye assumed the role of Bishop of Busoga Diocese on January 24, 2016, succeeding Rt Rev Dr Michael Kyomya, who retired in the same year.
Since then, two Dioceses, East and Central Busoga Dioceses, have been established from Busoga Diocese, expanding the religious landscape in the region.
