Museveni Hosts Annual Iftar Dinner

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda extended a warm welcome to the Muslim community on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, as he hosted them for the annual Iftar dinner at State House-Entebbe.

During the dinner, President Museveni conveyed his congratulations to the Muslim faithful for their journey through the Ramathan season, emphasizing the significance of their spiritual dedication.




Reflecting on the shared values between Islam and Christianity, President Museveni remarked on the similarities he perceives between the Quran and the Bible, finding common ground in the teachings of both faiths.




The President expressed satisfaction with the evolving approach of religious groups in promoting self-reliance and economic prosperity among their followers. He commended the shift away from past notions that discouraged economic prosperity, emphasizing the importance of embracing work and wealth creation.




President Museveni shared insights into his own efforts towards wealth creation, citing examples from his experiences in villages such as Kawumu-Makulubita and Kisozi. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring economic empowerment for all Ugandans, striving for equitable prosperity across communities.

Urging leaders to facilitate the adoption of diverse economic sectors, President Museveni highlighted the importance of commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT in combating poverty.

Addressing concerns regarding inheritance practices, President Museveni cautioned against the division of land or property, advocating for a fair distribution among heirs.




Acknowledging challenges related to Islamic teachings on interest within the Parish Development Model (PDM), President Museveni pledged to convene experts to address the issue, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusivity and non-discrimination.

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his continued hosting of the annual Iftar dinner and lauded his leadership in various areas, including healthcare, education, and economic development.

Sheikh Mubajje commended President Museveni for his inclusive leadership style, which has fostered national unity and development, and urged continued support for efforts to combat terrorism and dispel stereotypes against Muslims.




Additionally, the Mufti appealed to President Museveni to prioritize economic empowerment initiatives in Muslim-majority regions, aiming to establish them as centers of skill development and wealth creation.

The event, attended by government officials, diplomats, parliamentarians, and Muslim leaders, served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and celebration of religious diversity and national progress.
