To organize this year’s Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3, the Anglican dioceses of Tooro and Bunyoro are in need of funds totaling Shs2.1 billion. The Ruwenzori Diocese Bishop, Reuben Kisembo, confirmed to the Monitor that these dioceses, selected by the province, will lead the organization of the celebration at the Anglican shrine.
According to Bishop Kisembo, the organizing committee has already begun its work, including holding a meeting with President Museveni on Thursday, March 28, to kickstart the fundraising efforts.
Out of the required budget, President Museveni has pledged to provide Shs1.5 billion. The remaining balance is expected to be sourced from various sources, including churches, companies, institutions, and individuals. Churches alone are set to contribute Shs200 million out of the Shs400 million total expected from these entities.
Bishop Kisembo outlined a series of events leading up to the main celebration on June 3. Starting with a Children’s Day event on May 27, followed by Youth Day on the 28th, Women’s Day on May 29, and a Men’s event on May 30. The days leading up to June 3 will feature overnight prayers, crusades, and evangelism activities.
On June 3, Bishop Henry Dikumba from the Anglican Church of Nigeria is scheduled to serve as the guest preacher, with President Museveni attending as the chief guest.
The six dioceses involved in organizing the event include South Rwenzori from Kasese district, East Ruwenzori from Kamwenge district, West Ruwenzori from Bundibugyo district, Ruwenzori from Fort Portal City, Bunyoro Kitara, and Masindi Kitara.
