Members of the Christ Disciples Church Uganda who fled to Ethiopia to escape what they believed was an impending doomsday are now expressing a desire to return to Uganda. Bishop Ismail Orode Ojangole of Christ Disciples Church Uganda revealed that the believers, who left to Ethiopia in February 2023, are facing challenges in their attempt to come back due to a lack of resources.
In December last year, the leader of the group, Simon Peter Opolot, returned secretly with his family, leaving behind over 270 people in Ethiopia. Bishop Ojangole expressed the church’s hope for the safe return of the believers, emphasizing their prayers for God’s intervention.
“While they may have gone astray, we have not forgotten them. They are our brothers and sisters, and we wish for them to return and join us in worshiping the Lord,” stated Bishop Ojangole. He added that the church is praying for the well-being and protection of the team currently in Ethiopia and called on the government to assist in facilitating their return.
In October last year, one of the members who fled, George William Ojangole, passed away in Ethiopia. Due to a lack of means for repatriating his remains, he was buried there. The church continues to remember and pray for all its members, urging the government to support the return of those still in Ethiopia.
The revelations were made during the wedding ceremony of Kyambogo University lecturer Dr. Paul Emong in Kumi town. Bishop Ojangole commended Dr. Emong for completing all the sacraments of the church and encouraged him to cherish and protect his marriage.
