Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR) queen Agnes Ithungu Asiimawe has expressed her disapproval of men who neglect their families, emphasizing that those who shirk their family responsibilities deserve no respect from their wives and children. The rebuke was delivered during New Year’s Day celebrations at Nsenyi parish in Kisinga town council, Kasese district, attended by the entire royal family, including Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere.
According to Queen Ithungu, some men exhibit irresponsible behavior by leaving their homes in the morning without contributing to their family’s welfare, spending their time at trading centers, and returning in the evening only to ask for food. She highlighted the need for men to actively participate in family matters and condemned their reluctance to listen to their wives’ input.
The queen urged men to collaborate with their wives for successful families, particularly in the education of their children. She emphasized the importance of collective effort in fostering family well-being.
Elders Advocate for Action
Anne Muhindo Bakazimbaga, the head of laity at Nsenyi parish, called on OBR to implement the five pillars of the rebranded institution, emphasizing the importance of reconciliation, peace, unity, mindset change, and social-economic transformation. Muhindo stressed the need for practical actions to bring about positive change and urged the engagement of older individuals to promote peace and unity within families.
Presidential advisor Christine Muhindo encouraged collaboration among cultural institutions in the Rwenzori region, including Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, Toro Kingdom, and Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba, to combat social issues such as domestic violence, child neglect, and early marriages.

Kasese Catholic Diocese bishop Francis Aquirinus Kibira highlighted the role of the Church in counseling and guiding families, urging people to seek assistance from Church leaders during family setbacks.
