Bukwo – The relationship between voters in Bukwo district and the incarcerated District Chairperson, Mr. Julius Chelimo, remains steadfast despite his imprisonment since November 2022. Chelimo faces charges related to alleged trafficking and the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl who was a student in a school within the Sebei region.

Although Chelimo has been in prison, voters in Bukwo view the charges against him as a political witch hunt, particularly after he declared his intention to contest for the Member of Parliament seat for Kongasis County in Bukwo district.

Residents assert that regardless of whether Chelimo remains in prison or is released, they are determined to vote for him overwhelmingly in the 2026 elections.

Denis Chemutai, one of the residents, expressed their intent to massively support Chelimo in the NRM primaries for the MP seat. He stated, “Let those who have jailed Chelimo continue receiving money from those who think they have destroyed Chelimo’s political ground, but they will be ashamed in a short time to come.”

Esther Cherop, another voter, questioned why President Museveni was not taking interest in establishing the truth about Chelimo’s case. She remarked, “We shall vote for him, be it in prison or out, so that we shall have our MP representing us even in prisons.
