The Deputy RDC of Gulu, James Cosmas Okidi, has hailed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his efforts in promoting human rights. He made this statement during a Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting on human rights situations in Gulu District and City, where he highlighted several examples of human rights promotion by H.E. Yoweri Museveni for many years.
When officiating the function with his opening remarks on March 21, 2024, at the Gulu District Council Hall, the Deputy RDC of Gulu district recognized the efforts made by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda in initiating the drafting of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
This constitution established the Uganda Human Rights Commission, tasked with investigating human rights violations alongside other state organs such as the Police institution, the judiciary, local courts system, the office of the UPDF, and RDCs, among others. “Let’s make better use of these offices for human rights promotion,” DRDC Cosmas asserted.
He added that the president further initiated many income-generating interventions such as PDM, Emyooga, Grow Project, UWEP, and the Youth Livelihood Project, among others, to eradicate poverty among the communities, which are likely to be the major cause of human rights violations in the country. “I, therefore, call upon the general population to embrace these projects in promoting all forms of rights.
