Joining the Buganda Bumu North America Convention (BBNAC) 2025 in Boston, Equity Bank Uganda has extended its hand across borders, Massachusetts. The bank’s presence at this year’s convention is not simply symbolic but part of a growing effort to build trust and offer meaningful financial solutions to Ugandans living abroad.

This morning, the bank’s booth at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport welcomed Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, the Prime Minister of the Buganda Kingdom, signaling not just ceremonial endorsement but a recognition of the vital role financial institutions can play in linking the diaspora to development back home.

The bank is showcasing a suite of integrated financial services tailored for Ugandans abroad, allowing them to save, invest, and support their families and communities with ease. Officials at the booth say the focus is on simplicity, transparency, and bridging the long-standing gap between opportunity and access.

The Buganda Bumu Convention has become one of the most significant cultural gatherings for Ugandans in North America. With delegates from cities across the U.S. and Canada, the convention is a space for reflection, conversation, and connection.

This year’s event takes on added meaning as Uganda’s diaspora continues to grow in influence, both culturally and economically.l, and by setting up a presence here, Equity Bank Uganda is not only offering services but listening.

The visit from Katikkiro Mayiga underscores Equity bank’s intention to work in partnership with institutions of heritage and community leadership. Speaking informally with bank officials, the Katikkiro emphasized the importance of trusted systems, especially for those abroad who seek to contribute to Uganda’s future but are often unsure of how to do so safely.

Financial exclusion remains a challenge for many Africans abroad, particularly those who have faced bureaucratic or trust-related hurdles when dealing with banks back home.

Bank officials say this is just the beginning as they hope to expand their footprint across other overseas events in the U.S, Europe, and the Middle East over the coming year. But for now, Boston is the place to be.

Visitors to the convention are encouraged to pass by the Equity Bank Uganda booth at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport for one-on-one consultations and to learn more about the bank’s diaspora-targeted products.
