Equity Bank Uganda Leads the Way in Environmental Conservation and Green Financing

As the world marks #WorldEnvironmentDay, Equity Bank Uganda is proud to reaffirm its commitment to protecting the planet through meaningful action. Under the theme “Act for Nature,” the bank continues to play a vital role in promoting environmental sustainability, conservation, and the smart use of natural resources across the country.

In 2024 alone, Equity Bank Uganda and its partners successfully planted over 30,000 trees, contributing significantly to efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting biodiversity. From rural communities to urban landscapes, these tree-planting initiatives are helping restore degraded ecosystems while empowering communities to take ownership of their environment.

“At Equity Bank Uganda, we believe that a healthy planet isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity.” “Our goal is to foster sustainable growth by embedding environmental stewardship into our banking practices and community initiatives,” noted an official at the Bank.

Beyond tree planting, Equity Bank Uganda is leading the charge in green financing. To date, the bank has invested over UGX 22.25 billion towards financing green enterprises across various sectors. These include:

  • Renewable energy projects
  • Eco-friendly agribusinesses
  • Water conservation initiatives
  • Waste management and recycling enterprises

This strategic investment is empowering Ugandan entrepreneurs to build businesses that not only drive economic growth but also safeguard the country’s natural resources for future generations.

“Our support for green enterprises demonstrates our belief in the power of finance to drive positive environmental change,” added the official. “Through sustainable financing, we are helping Uganda transition towards a greener, more resilient economy.”

As World Environment Day 2025 shines a spotlight on nature, Equity Bank Uganda remains committed to advancing its environmental sustainability agenda — ensuring that nature and business thrive together.
