Dr. Chris Mukiza Urges UBOS Staff to Embrace Innovation and Technology

Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) employees have been urged to embrace innovation and adapt to the evolving world to produce high-quality statistics for informed policy formulations and planning in the country. Dr. Albert Byamugisha, the chairperson of UBOS board of directors, stressed the importance of staying innovative and leveraging current technologies to provide real-time data for quick decision-making and policy formulation.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Kampala Parents Grounds, Dr. Byamugisha emphasized the need for staff to uphold values, remain professional, adhere to ethical codes, and maintain transparency and honesty in statistical production and dissemination. He urged UBOS staff to ensure that activities are demand-driven, respond to user needs, and maintain effective team spirit through regular team building.




Dr. Byamugisha also highlighted the importance of the forthcoming census, urging staff to focus on its success and increase public awareness about its purpose, information collection, and use. Reflecting on the achievements of the year, he commended the dedicated UBOS team for accomplishments such as conducting the National Population and Housing Census pilot, developing the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) data portal, and initiating a staff provident fund.




Dr. Chris Ndatira Mukiza, the Executive Director, applauded the innovative efforts of Miiro Bells Patrick, the IT Officer in charge of the database, for developing a payroll verification system. The system is designed to clean the government payroll and eliminate anomalies in salary payments.




Dr. Mukiza encouraged all UBOS staff to remain steadfast and innovative, contributing to the continuous enhancement and strengthening of statistical production and development. The AGM highlighted UBOS’s commitment to utilizing technology and innovation to meet the evolving needs of data production and dissemination for effective policy guidance.
