A one-week training for over 100 youths has kicked off in Agweng sub-county, Lira district. The training is being conducted by instructors from Huawei and is aimed at teaching the youth computer skills.
The training was flagged off by Rtd. Warrant Officer Ebong Jimmy Sam and Hon. Sarah Awor Angweri, who represents the workers in the Lira city council. The youth are turning up in large numbers to acquire computer knowledge in the mobile truck that is parked at Agweng Primary School ground.
Ebong, who is the coordinator of the Lira district Huawei mobile computer training, has urged the youths to embrace the training so that they can become experts in handling computers in the near future.
“We want our people to really succeed in the future by having free computer knowledge. We want them to get this computer skill training to get to the next level. So we have brought this truck here with a lot of computers that should be utilized by the youth within this week,” said Ebong.
He appealed to the people of Agweng sub-county to take advantage of the training, which is normally very expensive, costing between 300,000 and 600,000 Ugandan shillings.
According to Hon. Sarah Awor Angweri, the training is non-political and free of charge for all learners. She said that Lira city, Apac, and Oyam districts have already received the training, with over 500 youths participating.
Awor said that the training is taking place in shifts, beginning with morning sessions and followed by afternoon sessions. Each shift runs for two days, for a total of one week.
Huawei is the implementing partner for the training, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development. Awor has been mobilizing the youth to cooperate with the instructors.
“Huawei is a smart phone dealer, and their major emphasis in the ICT training is leaving no one behind,” said Awor. She expressed her happiness with the project manager for having extended the training to Lira district through their lobbying.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja is expected to grace the grand function on September 22, 2023, where certificates will be awarded to the successful beneficiaries from Oyam, Lira, and Apac districts.
The training is expected to benefit over 100 youths from Agweng sub-county in Lira district.
